For anyone who is looking to add additional length or volume to
their hair, extensions are great way to go. Learning how to weave hair
extensions yourself can be simple and much cheaper than paying a
professional.
If you are looking to add extra volume or length to your hair, you
have a few different options. If you are looking to gain additional
hair as quickly as possible, though, hair extensions may be your best
option. Having extensions put in by a professional can be
overwhelmingly expensive. Thankfully, learning how to weave hair
extensions yourself is a relatively simple process.
Before you begin, make sure you have a rat-tail comb, thread, a
hair needle, scissors, and human or synthetic extensions. Human
extensions appear more natural, but they also come with a
substantially higher price tag. When you are ready to start weaving in
your extensions, first, thoroughly wash and condition your hair. When
the hair is completely clean, blow dry it straight, but do not use any
styling products or oils. Depending on the exact style you are going
for with the extensions, part your hair to match the pattern. That is,
part from crown to crown if you are doing a full head of
extensions. Part your hair across from the crown to the neckline for
partial extensions.
Once your hair is clean, dry, and properly parted, either put each
parted section of hair from left to right in cornrows, or is you are
applying extensions to your entire head, do the cornrows in a circular
pattern around the head. It is essential to make sure that the
cornrows are very tight. If they are too loose, the extensions will
not stay in place. Measure out the extensions, and cut them so that
they fit then cornrows. If you are looking to increase volume, the
extensions should be doubled or tripled. At this time, you should also
measure and cut the thread and put it on the needle.
Begin sewing each section of hair extensions to the cornrow. This
is done by weaving the threaded needle through the thick part of the
extension and through the cornrow it is being attached to. To make
sure the extension stays firmly in place, make you are you pulling the
thread the entire way through. When you are done sewing each
extension, tie a knot, and leave a small piece of thread hanging. This
will ensure that the extensions can be removed easily. When you're
finished, simply style the extensions as desired.
